Annual Shop Front Competition
Retail in Phibsborough is undergoing a renewal at the moment with some lovely new shops opening and established shops flourishing. Thanks to Maria Kinane who organized our second Shop Front Competition. In 2017, the winner was Kennedy’s. Last year, 2018 there were 32 entries and McGeoughs won.
We are grateful to our external adjudicators for their time and commitment to judging the competition and to all the shop owners who entered. It is heartening to have such a strong response and signals a bright future for shopping and dining out in Phibsborough.

Monthly Clean Up's
On the third Saturday of every month Phibsboro Village Tidy Towns come together outside of the Phibsboro Library between 10 am and 12 pm to clean the streets. This event reminds the community of Phibsboro of the commitment they have to their community and the responsibilities they have to the environment. With this event came the rise of the “Bin the Butt Campaign”. This campaign educates smokers and businesses on how to dispose of butts responsibly.
After volunteers meet for refreshments in St Peter’s Court for refreshments and a chat. This is an important aspect of PVTT is friendship and hospitality. New volunteers are always welcome.

Willow Weaving
Phibsboro Village Tidy Towns were delighted that after the success of the Willow Weaving project last year, the residents of Great Western Square agreed to another such project this year. Once again, the Park was transformed into a living, transient play park by local school children and families and enjoyed throughout the summer. A fun, shady space, this innovative place-making project created an open system, open for evolution and exploration. A space of surprise.
UCD Landscape Architecture lecturer, Sophie Maltzan and six students, provided local children and families with the opportunity to be creative with willow and create for themselves a wonderful contemporary, ephemeral play-sculpture park. Over 400 pupils from Grangegorman Educate Together School and Lindsay Road National School enjoyed making willow sculptures, painting a banner to put across the entrance to the park and playing in the park. The willow is maintained and repaired on a regular basis.
On a very hot Sunday 24th June, we were entertained by local traditional musicians, led by John Brennan. Food and drinks were provided by Catherine McKee and her family.
