Who We Are

Phibsboro' Village is a group of dedicated volunteers who are working hard to improve our local environment. We have participated in the National Tidy Towns competition since 2014 and we are happy to report that our score is improving every year. We work closely with We work in the interest of creating a sustainable community.

We are working to enhance the village through the provision of planters and hanging baskets.

We promote sustainable living and have organised talks on topics such as lost species, such as bees and butterflies; Horticulture, avoiding waste, encouraging recycling and sustainable energy.

We have recently established Phibsborough as a Sustainable Energy Community, part of an SEAI initiative, and are planning further information workshops on this initiative later in the year.

Get Involved

We are also looking for more volunteers, either as part of the monthly clean up's or to participate in the events. You can also join us for any of the events at we upload to our Facebook page or on our events page. If you need any more information don't be afraid to contact us.

About tidy towns

Repair Cafe, Buzzfest

Sustainability group

There are two aspects of sustainability that the group are working on.

Reducing waste through 'Relove, Repair, Reduce' education with practical approaches.

Last year at the Buzzfest event the focus was on reducing waste, educating the community people about how to use green bins properly, how to compost food waste etc.     This year we had the Repair Cafe in which volunteers repaired anything from jewellery, clothes, electronic and electrical goods, bicycles, furniture, toys etc. In the three hours of the Repair Cafe over 30 items were repaired. The people who brought the items watched the repairers at work.

Sustainable Energy Community

The other aspect the group are working on is for Phibsborough to become a Sustainable Energy Community. We are in negotiations with the Mater Hospital for them to become the Lead Applicants in this process. There is funding from SEAI, to pay a consultant to analyse the area and create a Master Plan in identifying which properties/organisations would most benefit from and engage in,  sustainable energy grants to enable them to reduce energy costs. The problem for us is that we would not have the money to pay upfront for the consultant, and SEAI's model of grants is to backdate a grant. Thus we are working with the Mater on this, as they would have the cash flow that we do not have.

Men's Shed, Phibsborough
Biodiversity Group, Phibsborough

Biodiversity Group

This group is promoting biodiversity within the area. The map maps out the green areas we have, and biodiversity that is in the area, such as the apiary in St Peter's Garden. We have hired an ecologist to create a database to analyze the biodiversity and from that information, we will form a  Master Plan to run over three to five years to improve the biodiversity. The overall plan is to create a green corridor from the Botanic Gardens to the River Liffey, and Phibsborough to be a part of that.

We also promote Biodiversity At Buzzfest we ran a   'bee and insect hotels' workshop for families. We will have information/education sessions throughout the year, in conjunction with the ecologist.

We have installed Swift boxes in Lindsay Road School and All Saints Church and are working with other institutions to install more next year. Swifts come to Ireland between May and August - so boxes need to be in place before May. This is an ongoing project.

We are developing a biodiverse garden on land owned by Mount Joy Prison, besides their car park, behind Phibsborough Library. Wildflower seeds have been planted and trees and other plants will be planted over the next months. This is an ongoing project.

Bin the Butts Campaign, Phibsborough

Bin the Butts Campaign

We continue our monthly Saturday morning clean-ups – every third Saturday of the month, meeting at the Library at 10 till 12, followed by refreshments in St Peter’s Court

Men's Shed

At the instigation of one of our volunteers, some committee members met the East Wall Men’s Shed. Out of these discussions, and with the assistance of Dublin City Council, we encouraged a group of men to start a Phibsboro’ Men’s Shed. They meet every Tuesday morning in St Peter’s Court. Contact us here for information.
